Yankees’ Cody Bellinger drops NSFW take on LeBron James’ NBA free agency saga
The NBA free agency saga of LeBron James has even reached the baseball world, with New York Yankees star reacting to the drama unfolding involving the future Basketball Hall of Famer.
Just before Monday night’s 2026 Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, the former National League Most Valuable Player was asked what team he would like to see James land next.
“To the Warriors, that’s my guess but I don’t know s**t,” Bellinger responded (h/t Fredo Cervantes of The Sporting Tribune).
That was a fair answer from Bellinger, who started his career in the big leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bellinger is great at baseball, but he’s not Shams Charania either. When it comes to the subject of the NBA free agency, he seemingly just has as much information as the regular fan.
But at least he named a team that is also heavily linked in the NBA offseason to the four-time NBA MVP. The Warriors, along with the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers, have been rumored the most as a potential landing spot for James, who is coming off an eight-year stint with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bellinger, who is celebrating his 31st birthday on the same day as the Derby, is familiar with free agency drama himself, having gone through it recently. In January, he ended speculations on his future when he signed a five-year, $162.5 million contract with the Yankees. He is making his first MLB All-Star appearance after missing the Midsummer Classic every season since 2019.
