Yankees calling up No. 6 prospect after Jasson Dominguez injury

The New York Yankees watched Jasson Dominguez go down in horrific fashion. Dominguez entered a medical cart following an epic catch at the wall against the Texas Rangers. New York and manager Aaron Boone moved swiftly Thursday to replace Dominguez.

The franchise has called up No. 6 prospect Spencer Jones, with MLB insider Mark Feinsand reporting the move.

“Jones has 11 home runs, 41 RBI and a .958 OPS in 33 games at Triple-A this season,” Feinsand posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

The outfielder landed in the first round (No. 25 overall) during the 2022 MLB Draft. Jones eventually agreed to a $2.88 million contract.

He trekked to Florida to start his pro run, suiting up for the Florida Complex League Yankees and earned a promotion with the Tampa Tarpons, who play in Single-A. Jones also had stops with the Hudson Valley Renegades (High-A South Atlantic League) and Somerset Patriots (Double-A franchise).

He spent 2025 with the latter team before heading to the Triple-A affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He ripped 13 home runs during his first 19 games of his RailRiders run.

Jones swung for the Yankees during 2026 spring training, smacking four home runs before getting optioned back to Scranton-Wilkes Barre.

Dominguez, meanwhile, appeared to briefly lose movement and feeling following his wall collision. He managed to get up on his knees and regained movement. Dominguez’s MLB Injury landed him in concussion protocol.

Jones’ elevation may not be the last move the Yankees make within their roster. Anthony Volpe jumping from the minor leagues could be in play too amid Dominguez’s situation.
