WWE star Rhea Ripley makes surgery announcement for meniscus injury after interim champ crowned

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Rhea Ripley’s torn meniscus injury is minor, as she revealed that she got surgery after an interim Women’s Champion was crowned at WWE SummerSlam 2026.

She took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a “life update” with her fans. The last 14 years of her athletic career have finally “caught up to me,” and she got surgery to repair her torn meniscus.

Life update.
After just under 14 year in wrestling and doing sports my entire life… It’s caught up to me. Surgery was never a first option for me, but it got to the point that it was needed…

“After just under 14 year[s] in wrestling and doing sports my entire life… It’s caught up to me. Surgery was never a first option for me, but it got to the point that it was needed…” she wrote. First one down… Hopefully no more…”

“I’ve survived, now it’s time to start thriving again so I can get back to what I love to do!” Ripley continued.

When is WWE’s Rhea Ripley coming back from her torn meniscus injury?

“Mami” did not provide a timetable for her return. However, she did say, “See you all down the road,” which sounds like she won’t be back anytime soon.

This isn’t Ripley’s first injury either. She has had some shoulder injuries in the past that have put her on the shelf. None of them, it appears, were as serious as the meniscus tear she suffered.

She suffered the injury a couple of months ago. Her last televised match was against Jade Cargill at Clash in Italy on May 31. In turn, WWE held a ladder match at SummerSlam to determine the interim Women’s Champion.

Chelsea Green, a two-time Women’s United States Champion, won the Women’s Championship against former world champions like Charlotte Flair, Tiffany Stratton, and Cargill.

It’s unknown how WWE intends to handle Ripley’s current Women’s Championship reign. Perhaps Green will become the full Women’s Champion in the meantime before “Mami’s” inevitable return down the line.
