Would Rueben Bain Jr. make sense for the Chiefs at No. 9? Visit hints at interest

The Kansas City Chiefs have attacked the offseason with a sense of urgency after finishing 6-11 in 2025. Kansas City made some big additions in free agency, including adding Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III. One recent move by the Chiefs suggests they could address their defense in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Chiefs are hosting Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. for a Top 30 visit on Thursday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Kansas City holds the ninth overall pick in the draft. The team seems to be interested in all of the top edge rushers in this year’s draft class, including Bain.

The Miami edge rusher had an excellent 2025 season for the Hurricanes. He logged nine-and-a-half sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception during his junior season. Bain projects as one of the top edge rushers in this year’s draft class alongside Arvell Reese and David Bailey.

But would Bain even make sense for Kansas City?

The Chiefs certainly do need some reinforcements at edge rusher. George Karlaftis is an excellent starter, but he is not receiving much help from his teammates at defensive end. Felix Anudike-Uzomah has been disappointing as a former first-round pick and Ashton Gillotte is the best reserve player behind him.

If Kansas City wants to get the most out of defensive tackle Chris Jones, it does make sense to add more talent on the edge.

There is more smoke than just a top 30 visit. ESPN’s Matt Miller paired the Chiefs with Bain in his latest mock draft, which was published on March 30th.

At this point, the biggest question is whether or not Bain will still be on the board at ninth overall.

If Bain is there at nine, Kansas City should be tempted to select him.
