World title fight descends into chaos as boxer thrown out of ring face-first

A grudge match between O’Shaquie Foster and Ray Ford boiled over when the latter was sent hurtling out of the ring.

The pair got caught up in a clinch at the end of the first round before Foster turned and threw Ford through the ropes face-first.

Thankfully, Ford wasn’t injured by the fall as he dusted himself off and got back into the ring.

Curiously, referee Jon Schorle elected not to take a point from Foster despite the blatant and dangerous foul.

He instead gave a ticking off to both men.

After the heat of the moment outburst, Foster kept his cool to outpoint Ford over the 12-round distance.

Foster came into his own in the second half of the fight as he offset Ford’s rhythm with sharp combinations and plenty of angle changes.

In the end, one judge scored the fight 114-114 even, while the other two ruled in favour of Foster by margins of 118–110 and 116-112 to hand him the majority decision win.

Foster gets into heated argument with Stevenson

Foster retained his WBC super featherweight title in victory and became embroiled in a heated argument with Shakur Stevenson post-fight.

Stevenson had been in attendance to support his friend Ford and was invited into the ring, where Foster attempted to goad the pound-for-pound star into fighting him.

“He was a little sharper early, but I knew I was going to start picking him apart,” Foster told DAZN’s Chris Mannix.

“I told him there was [sic] levels to this, and I told the son (Ford) that I was gonna get the daddy (Stevenson) next, and that’s who I want.

“Skill-for-skill, I’m the best. If I can’t get Shakur next, hopefully me and [Emanuel] Navarrete can do it, but y’all know who I want.

“(Shakur) knows this is why I (fought) his little man, to show him I was serious about making a fight with him, and I’m still serious right now.

“I’ll go to 140, or whatever he wants to do. If he wants to meet at 135, whatever he wants to do, let’s do it.”

Foster stuck out his hand to shake on the fight with Stevenson, but the WBC super lightweight champion shrugged it off.

Stevenson is chasing big paydays against the likes of Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis, so it’s perhaps understandable that he isn’t as keen on a high-risk, low-reward fight with Foster.

“He looked like he would [take the fight], but when I was looking in his face, he kind of looked timid,” added Foster of his back and forth with Stevenson.

“So, you know, I don’t know if he was doing it for a show or not, but as y’all can see, I’m very serious about making that fight.”
