Wings snap Aces’ win streak amid Commissioner’s Cup Championship spot pursuit

The Las Vegas Aces got tripped up by the Dallas Wings in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup showdown Monday night at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

The Aces entered the contest on a six-game winning streak and were coming off a thrilling 100-97 win at home on Saturday over the Minnesota Lynx. But the Aces proved to be too much to handle for the reigning WNBA champions this time around, with Arike Ogunbowale pacing Dallas with 22 points on 6-for-16 shooting from the field to go along with seven assists, four rebounds and two steals in 30 minutes of action.

The Wings jumped on Las Vegas early, with the Wings taking a nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Aces were outscored by 10 points in the second quarter and by two points in the third. The blowout continued in the final period, where the Wings poured in 22 points to just 13 by Las Vegas.

The Aces were not at full strength versus Dallas, with Las Vegas missing the services of one of their top scorers, as guard Chennedy Carter was ruled out for the contest due to illness.

Meanwhile, Jackie Young, who entered the game with a season average of 15.4 points, put up just six points on a salty 3-for-13 shooting. Meanwhile, Chelsea Gray, who usually produces double-digit scoring performances, finished with zero points after missing all five of her attempts from the floor.

A’ja Wilson led the Aces with 18 points and five rebounds.

Las Vegas will carry a 10-4 record into its next game on Wednesday against the Phoenix Mercury at Mortgage Matchup Center at Phoenix, Arizona.
