Wings’ Paige Bueckers reveals how she wants to improve this season

With the Dallas Wings led by Paige Bueckers and new rookie Azzi Fudd, the team is looking for its young stars to propel them into production, especially the former, who is entering her second year. As Bueckers has unfinished business in the league with the Wings, she would give insight into the areas she wants to improve in.

Speaking on Friday, she was asked about what are the aspects of her game she needs to get better at coming off an impressive rookie year. Bueckers would say to Landon Thomas that it’s focusing on the “little things.”

“Just the little things, taking no possessions off,” Bueckers said. “Being in better shape so I can do that. I think obviously coming off the college season, going straight to the W season was tough. Getting my legs back under me, my wind back under me, prepared for the long haul in the season, I think, as a leader of the team and as somebody that has been here before, being a returner.”

“It’s the little things that matter,” Bueckers continued. “It’s the boxing out, it’s talking to getting in passing lanes, running the floor, getting to the corners, being selfless, it’s like those things set the tone for the big things, and your teammates trust me in those big moments. So to set the tone with that and have that be the standard, those are the little things that I look in the mirror about.”

Last season, Bueckers averaged 19.2 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from beyond the arc, leading to her winning WNBA Rookie of the Year. At any rate, it remains to be seen how she improves going into her second season with Dallas.
