Will Campbell’s adversary-turned-teammate revs up hype train with Patriots training camp revelations

The New England Patriots are taking part in training camp this month as they gear up for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Patriots are hoping to prove that last season, which resulted in a trip to the Super Bowl, was no fluke.

In the Super Bowl, which the Patriots lost in blowout fashion to the Seattle Seahawks, a majority of the criticism was aimed at offensive lineman Will Campbell, who struggled mightily against the Seahawks’ elite defensive front.

Recently, however, Campbell got a big compliment from a player he squared off against last year.

“#Patriots EDGE Dre’Mont Jones says Will Campbell has definitely improved since they played each other last year. Jones points to Campbell being stouter, more patient with his hands, and staying square longer through the rush,” reported Evan Lazar of Patriots.com.

Jones was a member of the Tennessee Titans last year when the Patriots defeated them, and now, he and Campbell are teammates in New England. Campbell had plenty of expectations last year as a high draft pick, and although he had some moments throughout the season, the Super Bowl stage against the Seahawks’ elite defense proved to be a bit too much for him.

However, there is still plenty of time for Campbell to learn and grow, and if his training camp performance is any indication, he is already on the right track in that department.

Meanwhile, the Patriots will need all the help they can get this year as they prepare for a much more difficult schedule than the historically easy slate they faced in 2025.

New England will start things off with a Super Bowl rematch against the Seahawks on September 9.
