How Colts are really feeling about Daniel Jones’ miracle Achilles injury return

The Indianapolis Colts are currently taking part in training camp as they gear up for the 2026 NFL season. The biggest storyline of training camp for the Colts is the return of Daniel Jones, who tore his Achilles midway through last season but is already recovered and expected to be ready to go for Week 1.

Recently, Ben Solak of ESPN broke down his thoughts on Jones after visiting Colts training camp.

“I saw an unimpeded Daniel Jones. If you didn’t tell me the QB was only 7½ months removed from Achilles surgery, I wouldn’t have known,” reported Solak.

Solak also reported on some key members of the team’s state of mind as the season approaches.

“I asked general manager Chris Ballard, coach Shane Steichen and defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo what they thought of Jones through one week, and they reported on the quality of his play with a little relief…he’s clearly in a good place — good enough that Steichen isn’t at all modulating how he distributes reps or calls plays in training camp to account for Jones’ recovery,” he reported.

Jones had the Colts’ offense on a historic pace last year before suffering his injury. While there were already some signs of slippage prior to that, the devastating setback ended any realistic chance that Indianapolis had of competing in 2025, and the team wound up missing the playoffs altogether as a result.

This season, Jones will be out to prove that his hot start to the 2025 season was no fluke, and also follow in the footsteps of other sports stars like Jayson Tatum who have pulled off recent Achilles tear comebacks.

In any case, the Colts’ season is slated to get underway on September 13.
