Wild prediction about Fevers’ Sophie Cunningham draws big laugh from Bill Simmons

If Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham did not dominate your algorithm over the weekend, are you really alive?

Cunningham went from being a ring girl at UFC 329 on Saturday to a deadshot from three-point distance against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. The Fever routed the Aces, 109-75, with Cunningham scoring 20 points in 23 minutes off the bench on 6-of-7 shooting from long distance.

Her popularity has continued to rise, prompting well-known writer Chuck Klosterman to make a wild prediction that elicited a big laugh from The Ringer’s Bill Simmons.

“Sophie Cunningham, in the next, maybe, I’m going to say, 2050, is going to be vice president of the United States,” said Klosterman on Simmons’ podcast.

“I don’t know what party she’ll be in. I don’t know anything about her political views, but she will be the vice presidential candidate, at least a candidate.”

Some have called out Cunningham for appearing to be supportive of President Donald Trump, with some even christening her as “MAGA Barbie.” She has formed a friendship with UFC president Dana White, who is a known ally of Trump.

Klosterman expounded on his crazy forecast, which only made it as clear as a shattered mirror.

“I don’t know what it is. It’s something about the fact that she wears those sleeves on the court. Something about the way she triggers inbound plays at the end of games makes me think she will be someone’s ideal vice president. She’s a damn likable personality,” added the author of “Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs” and “Fargo Rock City.”

Simmons echoed the compliment about Cunningham, who signed with the Fever last season.

“She’s definitely likable. I thought that finger-pointing thing was one of the funniest things that’s happened in like three years,” said Simmons.

Cunningham became a meme after sassily pointing her finger at Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner during their heated altercation in June. Cunningham and UFC star Max Holloway recreated it on Saturday.
