Why the Reds has Kirk Herbstreit ‘so beyond pissed off’

Despite a grand slam from Cincinnati Reds slugger Eugenio Suárez to give the team a 10-9 comeback win over the Baltimore Orioles, having been down six runs at one point in the game, the team’s season overall has been a disappointing one. Even with the Reds putting the heroic Suarez on waivers shortly after, college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit would explain why the ball club has frustrated him.

Though Herbstreit is ESPN’s college football analyst, he was born in Hamilton, Ohio, 20 miles north of Cincinnati, and attended Ohio State, as he’s been a fan of the baseball team growing up. However, he would say on “The Pat McAfee Show” that with the last 13 years of underachieving, he is “beyond pissed off with the lack of competitive fire” from the team.

“Let me just tell you, my whole life. I grew up watching and listening to every Reds baseball game,” Herbstreit said. “I used to keep score of Reds baseball games, like I am a die-hard Reds baseball fan, and after 13 years of underachieving, I am always a fan, but I am so beyond pissed off with the lack of competitive fire from the organization that it just…they’ve beaten it out of me. I’m still there, but look at the stands. I’m not the only one. Look at all the red seats at the home games.”

“When I was growing up, Reds baseball was as proud as any professional organization there was in all sports, not just baseball, and they don’t have that now,” Herbstreit continued. “So hopefully they’ll get it back one day. I’m still a fan. I just get disgusted with them.”

At any rate, the Reds are currently 63-71, which puts them last in the NL Central, and nine games out of a wild-card spot with 28 games left.
