Why Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, Braxton Berrios are ‘no-risk propositions’

The New York Giants are reloading the roster ahead of a crucial 2026 season. New York got fans excited by reuniting with Odell Beckham Jr. on Monday. Further details about that transaction make the move make the Giants look even smarter.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan gave an update on the contract details for each of the wide receivers New York signed on Monday.

“Contract updates: Odell Beckham Jr., Juju Smith-Schuster and Braxton Berrios were all signed to minimum deals, per sources. They will have to earn their spots on the roster,” Raanan wrote on Tuesday. “No-risk propositions financially for the Giants.”

New York worked out four receivers on Monday, which included all three receivers listed above plus Anthony Miller.

At the time, it seemed unlikely that the Giants would add multiple receivers at the same time. But these new contract details make it clear that New York really is not taking any risks with these veteran receivers.

Now the Giants have an incredibly deep wide receiver room that should make for an exciting training camp battle.

New York is projected to have Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Darnell Mooney as their starting trio in 2026. But Nabers is still recovering from a major knee injury and his availability for training camp is unclear. If he misses time to start the season, that could create space for one additional receiver on the initial 53-man roster.

The recent Gunner Olszewski injury is another factor that could influence which receivers make the final roster. Olszewski’s job as a return specialist is now up for grabs, with Berrios squarely in the mix for that role.

Ultimately, it is a smart move by New York to have multiple options at wide receiver heading into training camp. It will be fascinating to see who comes out on top.
