Why Cowboys’ George Pickens is more confident now that he will land massive contract

The Dallas Cowboys are still managing the George Pickens contract situation this offseason. The star wide receiver is still set to play under the franchise tag after the two sides failed to come to an agreement on a long-term contract extension, but now the former Steeler is back in the building.

After missing voluntary workouts this offseason, Pickens is back with the team for mandatory minicamp. The mandatory portion of the offseason got underway on Tuesday, and Pickens returned on Monday for his physical.

Dallas got even more good news on Tuesday when Pickens confirmed that he will not hold out during training camp and is planning on being out there regardless of his contract situation. Still, it isn’t too late for Pickens to get a deal before the season, and that’s what both sides will be hoping for.

On Tuesday, Pickens talked about why he’s even more confident that he will land a big extension now, via Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News.

“Super fathomable, now that it’s been put on tape and it’s been seen,” Pickens said on the looming deal.

Pickens isn’t a full participant in minicamp amid the dispute. He is participating in individual drills, but is expected to sit out of the team portion of things. Other stars around the NFL in similar situations, such as Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, are taking a similar approach. Still, having him in the building and around the team is a good sign for the Cowboys heading into the summer.

The All-Pro wideout has certainly earned his money after a career year in his first season with the Cowboys in 2025. He finished with 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. The tandem of he and CeeDee Lamb became arguably the most dynamic receiver duo in football, and they along with Dak Prescott made this one of the best offenses in the league.

Whether Pickens gets a new deal or not, it appears that he is here to stay with the Cowboys, at least for this season. That is enough to scare everyone else in the NFC.
