Dodgers lose pitcher to IL right before trade deadline

The Los Angeles Dodgers are placing right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart on the injured list due to a shoulder concern just days before the upcoming MLB trade deadline, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reportedly doesn’t believe the injury is too severe, according to Ardaya.

“Dave Roberts called it a ‘proactive’ move, and downplayed the severity. Brock Stewart will get imaging tomorrow,” Ardaya reported.

The Dodgers were already being linked to multiple pitchers before the trade deadline. Stewart’s injury could add to their motivation to bring in a pitcher or two. Of course, Detroit Tigers star Tarik Skubal remains connected to the Dodgers in trade rumors.

Stewart, 34,  has performed well in limited action with the team in 2026. He has appeared in 14 games, turning in a 2.45 ERA during that span. Stewart has also pitched to a 0.87 ERA across 12 total minor league outings.

The Dodgers have dealt with no shortage of pitching injuries this year. They have had enough depth to find success despite the difficult circumstances, but injuries have still been a concern for the ball club.

Los Angeles is currently 69-40 overall and in first place in the National League West standings. They have the best record in all of baseball and look like they will be more than capable of reaching a third consecutive World Series. With that being said, losing Stewart to the injured list is still obviously far from ideal.

The Dodgers’ next game is scheduled for Friday night against the Boston Red Sox at 10:10 PM ET.
