Where to watch UEFA Super Cup: Unai Emery forced to make line-up decision early as Aston Villa begin ‘new era’

The first European trophy of the 2026/27 campaign will be claimed this week as Aston Villa take on Paris Saint-Germain.

And the French giants are back in the big game again, beating Arsenal on penalties to go back-to-back in UEFA’s elite competition.

They took on Premier League opposition in Tottenham last time they were here – now they take on another English side.

Aston Villa come up against the Ligue 1 champions after beating Freiburg to win the Europa League last season.

Unai Emery proved his expertise in the competition yet again, as Villa got their hands on their first European trophy since 1982.

But as he aims to claim another title on the continent, his hand has been forced when it comes to his starting line-up where he will be without his new £51million signing Johan Manzambi.

Manzambi, who starred at the World Cup with Switzerland this summer, joined the club following a transfer hijack.

The 20-year-old opted to sign for Villa over Newcastle, but arrived in the West Midlands carrying a knee injury – and due to that, he has been left out of the squad for the Super Cup completely, so won’t be part of the action in Salzburg.

It has been reported that there is no definitive return date for Manzambi, but he’s expected to be out for weeks, not months.

Villa will hope they can succeed without their new man, as Emery admitted that he feels this is the start of something good for fans.

“I feel like the club is in a new era, with this possibility to fight for trophies,” he said. “We’re trying to be successful through, firstly, [building] a winning team, and then aiming for the positive consequences after it: winning trophies.”

The 2026 UEFA Super Cup will take place on Wednesday, August 12.

It will be played at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, with kick-off set for 8pm in the UK, which is 9pm local time.

Fans can watch the action between PSG and Aston Villa live on TV via TNT Sports and stream online via HBO Max.
