Where to watch Sunderland v Manchester United: TV details and talkSPORT coverage

Manchester United will look to celebrate Champions League qualification in style when they face Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

United guaranteed a return to Europe’s elite club competition last weekend as they beat rivals Liverpool 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Goals from Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Kobbie Mainoo saw Michael Carrick’s men secure the spoils at the expense of the 2024/25 Premier League champions.

And they’ll be looking to extend their winning run to four matches when they travel to the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have successfully staved off the threat of relegation but welcome United on a three-match winless run.

Regis Le Bris’ side were held to a 1-1 draw by table footers Wolves on Saturday as Santiago Bueno cancelled out Nordi Mukiele’s first half opener at Molineux.

Sunderland will look to put on a much-improved display than they did in their last home game as they fell to a 5-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest last month.

Sunderland vs Manchester United: Date and how to follow

This Premier League clash takes place on Saturday, May 9.

The game kicks off at 3pm UK time, and is not available to watch live on TV owing to the blackout.

However, you can follow the action live on talkSPORT on Gameday Live.

Adrian Durham, Charlie Austin, Micky Gray and Alvin Martin kick off proceedings from 2:30pm as they provide the updates around the grounds.

Sunderland vs Manchester United: Team news

Dan Ballard is suspended after his dismissal for pulling Tolu Arokodare’s hair in last week’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.

Luke O’Nien could potentially come into the side at the heart of the defence alongside Omar Alderete.

Elsewhere, Romaine Mundle and Simon Moore are both missing for the Black Cats.

However, Le Bris is able to call upon Bertrand Traore and Nilson Angulo for Saturday’s game.

United, meanwhile, are free to select Lisandro Martinez after he served his ban following his dismissal for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair in last month’s 2-1 defeat to Leeds.

Benjamin Sesko faces a late fitness test having come off at the break against Liverpool, meaning centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is the visitors’ only confirmed absentee.

Sunderland vs Manchester United: What has been said?

Michael Carrick returns to the scene of one of his worst days as a Manchester United player this weekend.

A first half Wayne Rooney goal was enough for United to claim a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light on the final day of the 2011-12 season.

Victory would have been enough for United to claim a 20th top-flight title provided rivals Manchester City failed to beat QPR at the Etihad Stadium.

And City went into second-half stoppage time 2-1 down before Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero scored late on as a final-day dream turned to a nightmare for United.

“Yeah, yeah, I can remember that. I’ve not forgotten it,” said Carrick, who started alongside Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in midfield that day.

“Obviously it was a one-off kind of feeling. It wasn’t during the game, it wasn’t until after the game, kind of didn’t really know exactly where the land was lying at that point.

“So it wasn’t until we walked towards the edge of the pitch and we had to deal with what was thrown at us.

“It’s in the past, you know, but, yeah, it definitely sticks in the memory.”
