What Thunder’s Chet Holmgren said about getting humiliated by Victor Wembanyama

The Oklahoma City Thunder will be heading into the offseason after their Game 7 loss against the San Antonio Spurs, which proved to be a heavyweight battle. There’s no doubt that the Thunder were shorthanded throughout most of the series, especially with Jalen Williams and Ajay Williams injured.

That meant that other players had to step up, but the one player who never seemed to get things going was Chet Holmgren. In Game 7, he only took two shots and finished with four points and four rebounds. The matchup everyone was watching during the series was Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama, and it’s obvious who won.

After the game, Holmgren was asked about his matchup with Holmgren, and he seemed to be more worried about the team’s success than individual stats.

“At the end of the day, it’s about us trying to win a basketball game… The Thunder team trying to win a basketball game. That’s what it’s always gonna be,” Holmgren said.

The way Wembanyama was playing, it may have been best for Holmgren to take things a little more personally, but it still might not have been enough. At the same time, Holmgren needed to step up regardless as the second-best player for the Thunder, but instead, he sort of had good games here and there, but never took it to the next level.

Now, people are looking at the moves that the Thunder should make during the offseason and wondering if they should trade Holmgren. The truth is this: the Thunder weren’t at full strength and still took the series to seven games. Holmgren is not the main reason for them losing, and they’re still a young team that has a lot of time ahead of them to get back to the NBA Finals.

Sam Presti has some decisions to make, but it won’t be an emotional one.
