Wayne Mardle tells Luke Littler he’s doing ‘big fish’ celebration all wrong

Wayne Mardle has told Luke Littler his big fish celebration is being executed wrong.

The teenage star is known for depicting the reeling in of a fish with a fishing rod after a 170 checkout.

It comes from the name ‘big fish’ which is used in the highest checkout due to the placement of the darts.

To claim a 170, throwers must hit two treble twenties with the last dart hitting the bullseye.

Littler has hit a 170 on a host of occasions during his relatively short career to date while doing the celebration in front of his adoring fans.

However, Mardle says the 19-year-old has been doing the celebration all wrong.

The Sky Sports pundit claimed that Littler did the fishing rod movement the wrong way round after his win over Michael van Gerwen in the Premier League on Thursday.

“You reel it out. You need to reel it in,” Mardle told Littler.

“The fish is already out there, stop reeling it out pal.”

The pair were then shown a video of Littler doing his celebration from the oche to which Mardle said: ”That’s reeling it out.”

The suggestion drew boos from the Dublin crowd to with Littler responding: “Come on now.”

Mardle hit back with a cheeky jibe adding: “You can’t argue with kids.”

The wholesome exchange came after Littler overcame Stephen Bunting before seeing off Van Gerwen in the semi-final at the 3Arena.

Littler then went on to claim his second win of the season with a 6-5 victory over Gerwyn Price in the final.

The reigning world champion produced a stunning comeback from 5-0 down to see off the Welshman in fine fashion.

Littler survived five match darts to cement second place in the current standings.

“I’ve definitely learnt a lot, especially with the fans. In the first game against (Stephen) Bunting I didn’t give anything to the fans, I didn’t give any reaction and got the job done.

“It was the same in the final when I was 5-0 down, everyone doubted me, I definitely doubted myself but I had a little laugh and a joke. I was just having a bit of fun because I knew I was beaten.

“I’m still learning not to react to the fans. I didn’t do much then, only for the first leg, and then I can build on it. It is what it is, people want to see new winners but I’ve won again.”
