Warriors rumors: Stephen Curry’s ‘definite’ contract extension plans amid retirement speculation

The Golden State Warriors are currently in the early stages of what could be a highly consequential 2026 offseason following their play-in loss to the Phoenix Suns. There has already been chatter about whether or not head coach Steve Kerr will continue his highly successful run in the Bay Area, and the clock is also ticking on the Stephen Curry era in Golden State.

Recently, however, ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel provided an encouraging update for those hoping Curry sticks around for the foreseeable future.

“They know Stephen Curry is going to still be there. We can throw all those talks of ‘Oh, he can request a trade or they can look to move off him…’ Stephen Curry will be retiring with the Warriors. It’s just a matter of when… It doesn’t seem like it’s going to be anytime soon. He’s going to be signing a contract extension with them this year… it’s going to be somewhere in that two, three-year window,” reported Siegel on Clutch Scoops, via ClutchPoints on X, formerly Twitter.

Siegel also noted that the new contract will keep Curry as one of the highest paid players in the league, but that there are still plenty of other questions around the organization, including about what the future holds for Jimmy Butler.

Butler will likely miss at least some of next season as he recovers from an ACL injury, and it’s unclear how much he will have left in the tank as he continues to age.

The Warriors do have their fair share of assets to play with this summer in an attempt to possibly bring in another star, but it remains to be seen how things will play out for a dynasty that certainly appears to be on its last legs.
