Dodgers’ Edwin Diaz set for huge step toward injury return

Los Angeles Dodgers veteran reliever Edwin Diaz is working his way back from a neck injury concern. The Dodgers have endured ups and downs in recent action and could use a boost. According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Diaz will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A on Sunday.

Diaz, 32, has had a disastrous first season with the Dodgers so far. Between injuries and underperformance, the three-time All-Star has endured a forgettable season up to this point.

Diaz signed with the Dodgers this past offseason. However, he has pitched to a lackluster 11.85 ERA. Diaz has just seven saves as well. Injuries have impacted him, as the veteran pitcher has only appeared in 16 total games.

In 2025 with the New York Mets, Diaz turned in a stellar 1.63 ERA to go along with 28 saves in 62 appearances. He still features the ceiling of one of the best closers in the sport.

Diaz could still finish the year strong if he can return soon and make an impact down the stretch and in the postseason. The Dodgers may be hesitant to immediately have him return to the closer role once he returns. Either way, Diaz could help matters out of the bullpen.

Updates on Edwin Diaz’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available. For now, the Dodgers are focused on their upcoming game against the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. First pitch for the ball game is scheduled for 9:10 PM ET at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
