Warriors rumors: Bulls insider claims ‘very close’ Steve Kerr confidant told him he’s done

It’s a very hectic time in the NBA. On Tuesday, Billy Donovan stepped down as head coach of the Chicago Bulls. Meanwhile, former Bull and current Warriors coach Steve Kerr is facing an uncertain future and possibly retiring before next season.

However, it may be that Kerr isn’t done yet, per Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times. According to Cowley, he talked with a close advisor to Kerr, and apparently, Kerr is ready to leave the Bay Area.

“Talked to someone very close to Steve Kerr, and he said the coach has known for weeks he was done,” Cowley posted on X, formerly Twitter. “We’ll see. Could be two Hall of Fame coaches walking this week. Crazy league.”

He is referring to Kerr and Donovan, who are both Hall of Famers. The Warriors are coming off being eliminated in the NBA Play-In tournament by the Phoenix Suns last Friday, 111-96. Plus, they are on the cusp of potentially turning a new corner.

Steph Curry is 38 years old, and Draymond Green is 36 years old. Plus, Jimmy Butler remains out due to an ACL injury. Additionally, they have significant cap flexibility to reconstruct the roster if possible.

But it goes back to what Kerr will do.

Since 2015, Kerr has led the Warriors to four NBA Championships (2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022). In 2016, he led them to a record-setting 73-win season.

With the Bulls, Kerr was a huge part of the last three-peat team from 1996 to 1998. In Game 6 of the 1997 Finals, Kerr hit the game-winning shot against the Utah Jazz.

The Bulls are undergoing a complete restructuring that began with the firings of Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley in early April.
