Warriors fans are mixed on blockbuster Steve Kerr extension

After being eliminated in the Play-In Tournament, there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of the Golden State Warriors, most notably, the future of Steve Kerr coaching the team. Kerr let it be known after the final game of the season that he knew the future would be unclear, and it felt like the writing was on the wall for his time with the Warriors.

Nonetheless, Kerr and the organization were able to come to terms on a two-year extension that will keep him as the highest-paid head coach in the league. This should be good news for the Warriors, as they keep a respected coach in the locker room as their stars possibly head into the final years of their careers.

There have been some mixed feelings about Kerr returning to the team, as some seem excited about the extension, while others were looking to move on from the coach and head into a new era.

“Steve Kerr gets another two year deal as highest paid coach while the Warriors remain stuck in post dynasty limbo. The franchise rewards loyalty and past glory instead of demanding results from a coach whose system now looks outdated against modern athletic teams,” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“Steve Kerr had far from a perfect season this past year — and he’d admit that — but I really don’t know what to say to you if you thought the Warriors, given where their roster is, could have replaced Kerr with a better coach for this group. Just straight foolishness,” a second user wrote.

“Golden State extending Steve Kerr was definitely the right move imo,” a third user wrote.

“They’re not going to do better than Steve Kerr. Let’s not blame him for the roster issues. He doesn’t have that power,” a fourth user wrote.

It looks like Warriors fans will have to get used to seeing Kerr for the next two years, and the hope is that they can find the success they used to have before it’s too late.
