Warriors’ Draymond Green rips calls for Thunder to trade Chet Holmgren
Since the Oklahoma City Thunder were eliminated from the Western Conference Finals by the San Antonio Spurs, Chet Holmgren has become the topic of discussion. After struggling against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, some, like Kendrick Perkins, for example, believe OKC should trade Holmgren due to his poor play in the WCF. Well, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green is here to say the opposite.
In the latest episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” the 36-year-old forward defended Holmgren and blasted anybody and everybody who thinks the Thunder should trade the superstar big man. While Green understands the criticism, he believes the best move forward for Oklahoma City is to keep Holmgren on the roster.
“I understand criticizing Chet and all of that, but acting like he’s a bum and he should be traded, like I thought all of that talk is ridiculous and premature,” said Green. “It’s the exact way that franchises set themselves back and never grow. It’s the exact reason that so many franchises don’t have the ultimate success because most franchises actually panic and do what everyone’s saying they should do, which is, ‘Oh man, we got to trade Chet right now.’
“Man, Chet was just second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, All-Defense First-Team, All-NBA Third Team, All-Star, and he had a bad playoff series, and everybody like, ‘Time to trade him.'”

Holmgren is only 24 years old, so he’s probably not even in his prime yet. But already he’s playing as one of the best forwards in the NBA. The 2025-26 campaign was arguably his best season, as he averaged 17.1 points (career-best), 8.9 rebounds (career-best), 1.7 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting 55.7% from the field (career-high) and 36.2% from beyond the three-point line.
While some have claimed the Thunder should trade Chet Holmgren, Draymond Green seems to believe the right thing to do for OKC is to continue building around the three-year veteran. Especially considering, on top of all of the accolades and his career-best season to date, Holmgren also already has a championship ring.
