Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26: Vidarbha's Dhruv Shorey equals record for most consecutive List A centuries
Vidarbha batter Dhruv Shorey continued his impressive run in List A cricket by equalling the record for the most consecutive centuries, scoring an unbeaten 109 against Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 at Rajkot. With this knock, Shorey joined Tamil Nadu’s N. Jagadeesan at the top of an elite list, becoming only the second batter to score five successive centuries in List A cricket.
Batting at No. 3, Shorey anchored Vidarbha’s total of 365 for 5 after the team was asked to bat first. His innings, which came off just 77 balls, featured nine boundaries and six sixes. The knock recorded Shorey’s eighth List A century.
The platform for Shorey’s innings was anchored by openers Aman Mokhade and Yash Rathod, who stitched together a 148-run opening partnership as Mokhade scored 82 while Rathod added 68. After their dismissals, Vidarbha were at 168 for 2, providing Shorey the opportunity to take control of the middle overs.
Shorey found support from Samarth R, with whom he added 140 runs for the third wicket. His innings helped Vidarbha to push over the 350-run mark. Late contributions from Nachiket Bhute ensured the momentum stayed with the batting team.
This century also extended Shorey’s streak that began in the knockout stages of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. During that campaign, he hit hundreds in the quarter-final, semi-final, and final, playing an important role as Vidarbha finished runners-up. Alongside Karun Nair, Shorey was one of Vidarbha’s most dependable batters, finishing as the team’s second-highest run-getter and fifth overall with 494 runs at an average of 70.47.
Earlier in the current season, Shorey had begun with a 136 off 125 balls against Bengal, although Vidarbha fell short despite posting 382. Jagadeesan’s five consecutive centuries had come during the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy, a run that included his historic 277 against Arunachal Pradesh. The next best streak stands at four, achieved by Nair, Devdutt Padikkal, Kumar Sangakkara, and Alviro Petersen, with Sangakkara the only one to do so in international cricket.
