Victor Wembanyama’s most ridiculous highlight of Game 1 was a missed dunk

The San Antonio Spurs were able to get a convincing Game 1 win against the Portland Trail Blazers, and there were several highlights throughout. Of course, most of them involved Victor Wembanyama, who scored a game-high 35 points, but even some of his misses were highlights.

Late in the fourth quarter, when the Spurs were trying to put the game away, De’Aaron Fox found Wembanyama on the lob while he was behind the backboard, but he missed it.

It was insane for Wembanyama to almost make the dunk, and it just shows how impressive he is. Nonetheless, the Spurs were able to close out the Blazers and walk away with the win.

Though Wembanyama got his first career playoff win, he’s still focused on the bigger goal, and he’s not going to let Game 1 hold too much real estate in his head.

“It was a great first (playoff win). We were solid. But as expected, job’s not done,” Wembanyama said after the game.

Mitch Johnson had nothing but good things to say about Wembanyama’s mindset in his first playoff game.

“There’s an approach we all have in terms of an expectation of a high level of preparation, details, nuance, competitiveness, physicality, everything,” Johnson said.

“I think there’s a real desire from that young man to want to participate in that,” Johnson added. “This is his first playoff game, and he has lofty expectations and goals for himself, and being in the playoffs is squarely a part of a lot of that.”

Though the Spurs may be a young team with not much experience in the playoffs, they seem to be conducting themselves the right way to make a deep run. They have veterans on the team, such as Harrison Barnes and Luke Kornet, who can show them the way, but it will be up to them to execute on the court.
