Vanderbilt basketball lands former Colorado 7-footer in transfer portal
The Vanderbilt basketball program hopes for continued success under head coach Mark Byington. Byington just led the Commodores back to the NCAA tournament once again, after a fantastic season in the SEC. Vanderbilt is getting another big transfer this offseason, as Colorado big man Bangot Dak is committing to the Commodores.
“The 7-0 junior averaged 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game this season,” On3 reported.
Dak put together some strong performances at his last school, Colorado. Although Colorado didn’t make the NCAA tournament this past season, the Buffaloes had a pretty good campaign in the Big 12. Dak started 30 games for the Buffaloes.
The big man frequently posted double-figures in scoring while playing for Colorado. He had a late-season five game streak where he reached double figures in points.
Colorado ended the season with 17 wins.
Vanderbilt basketball is quickly turning into an SEC power
Dak is likely to start right away at Vanderbilt, for the 2026-27 season. Under Byington, the Commodores made the SEC tournament championship game this past season. The club ended up losing that game to Arkansas.
Then in the NCAA tournament, Vanderbilt advanced in the Round of 64 after defeating McNeese. The Commodores lost in the Round of 32 to Nebraska.
Vanderbilt has been busy in the transfer portal. The Commodores now have three incoming transfers, after Dak’s commitment. The team also has shooting guard Ace Glass, and power forward Berke Buyuktuncel on the way.
Glass previously played at Washington State, where he made his mark.
“Glass put up similar numbers for the Wildcats as a freshman this season, averaging 16.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists. The 19-year-old shot 45.5 percent from the field overall and 36.4 percent from three-point range, making 71-of-195 shots from beyond the arc,” the Nashville Post reported.
Byington just finished his second season at Vanderbilt. He has led the Commodores to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances. He previously coached at James Madison, where he led that program as well to the Big Dance.
