Celtic vs Aberdeen quick tips

Celtic vs Aberdeen predictions

Celtic will be absent from the Champions League league phase for a second successive season following their embarrassing defeat by LASK last week.

The Hoops led 4-0 on aggregate with less than an hour of the tie remaining, yet they somehow conspired to lose the second leg 5-1 in Austria to crash out in ignominious fashion.

Unlike Rangers, Celtic will still be involved in continental competition this campaign, but they will have to make do with a spot in the Europa League.

That is scant consolation given that Celtic had been in such a commanding position in the play-off against LASK, winning 3-0 at home and going 1-0 up away.

Martin O’Neill’s men at least managed to bounce back at the weekend. A 2-1 victory over Falkirk was a closer scoreline than Celtic would have wanted, but it maintained their 100 percent start to the Scottish Premiership season.

Celtic, the defending champions and title favourites, now have the chance to make it four wins from four in this midweek fixture against Aberdeen.

The Dons are third-bottom ahead of their trip to Glasgow, having taken three points from the first nine available.

In fairness, it has been a tough start for Aberdeen, whose first four games have been against Heart of Midlothian, Dundee, Rangers and Celtic.

Celtic vs Aberdeen tips

Celtic will be looking for a fourth win from four matches when Aberdeen head to Glasgow.

Tough task for Aberdeen

Celtic’s Champions League disappointment and Rangers’ failure to qualify for any form of European football proves that the Scottish game is not in the best place right now.

Such is the intensity of the Old Firm rivalry, Celtic will nonetheless be pleased that they remain the team to beat back home.

Nothing is decided in August or September, of course, but Martin O’Neill’s charges certainly look like the strongest side in the division right now.

It is difficult to see how Aberdeen will be able to stop Celtic winning this one comfortably.

Celtic to march on

Celtic may have only beaten Falkirk by one goal on Saturday, but it was a pretty dominant display from the Glaswegian giants.

Falkirk only managed one shot on target all afternoon, with an own goal responsible for them getting on the scoresheet.

Prior to that, Celtic thrashed Dundee United (4-0) and Kilmarnock (5-1) in their first two league outings of 2026/27.

Aberdeen would do well to escape with a defeat by a one-goal margin at Celtic Park.

Hogh or Duran up top?

If Kasper Hogh is fit once more, Martin O’Neill has a decision to make on Wednesday.

The Denmark international missed the Falkirk game through injury, but he is expected to be back soon.

In his absence, Camilo Duran notched a match-winning brace, which could be enough for him to keep his place up front even if Hogh is available for selection.

Duran looked sharp at the weekend, while he also scored twice in the Champions League play-off first leg against LASK. That bodes ill for Aberdeen.
