Tyreek Hill opens up on retirement plans just days after teasing Chiefs reunion

Tyreek Hill has hinted at what lies in store for him after he hangs up his cleats.

The NFL wide receiver was once the fastest player in the league, clocking a top speed of 23.24 mph back in 2016.

But he currently finds himself out of the NFL after suffering a severe left knee dislocation and multiple torn ligaments in September 2025 when playing for the Miami Dolphins.

He was released by the team after the 2026 season and is still a free agent as he continues his rehabilitation and recovery.

But when the Kansas City Chiefs announced the restructuring of guard Trey Smith’s contract, many fans speculated that the team could be looking to free up cap space for Hill in particular.

The five-time All-Pro spent the first six seasons of his career with the Chiefs, where he was named a Pro Bowler every season and played an integral role in Kansas City’s run to Super Bowl LIV glory in 2020.

From 479 receptions, the speedy wideout recorded 6,630 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns, whilst rushing for an additional 719 yards and six scores.

The 32-year-old then fueled this potential reunion with Patrick Mahomes and co further when he took to social media platform X and posted just one word: “hm.”

“H – Home? M – Missouri? Or H – Home? M – Mahomes?” one fan speculated.

Just three hours later he quoted a video of Mahomes throwing Hill a touchdown pass in the 2022 AFC Divisional round against the Buffalo Bills, writing: “Pat a wild boy for even throwing this.”

This had fans growing more excited by the possibility of him returning back to KC.

“Mahomes and you were the most unstoppable duo ever,” one fan wrote.

“You know where home is,” a second user commented.

“We are just waiting to welcome you back…say the word,” a third added.

Hill opens up on retirement plans

Due to the nature of Hill’s injury, and the fact that he had to undergo two surgeries, it appears extremely unlikely that he will be available to play for a team by Week 1.

The Athletic’s Daniel Popper issued an update when discussing the current receiver free agency market, suggesting that Hill will likely only become an option later on in the season.

“The receiver market, like the edge market, has thinned out through the late spring and summer,” he wrote.

“Stefon Diggs signed with the Commanders. Keenan Allen signed with the Colts. Deebo Samuel Sr. signed with the San Francisco 49ers. Cooks is the best remaining player of this group.

“Tyreek Hill is still available, of course. But his injury situation is just too uncertain to make a roster at this stage. Hill is unlikely to be an option until much later in the season.”

Whilst he is still expected to make a return to the NFL when healthy, it appears that Hill is already preparing for life after football.

During an appearance on LOL! Network’s Cold As Balls show with Kevin Hart, Hill explained his plans for the future.

“I want to be a high school football head coach,” Hill said. “I want to drive trucks, man. I want to drive a big semi-truck, dog. I’m from the south, bro.”

There’s a huge difference between being a football coach and being a truck driver, so it appears that one of the NFL’s most electric wide receivers is very much keeping all avenues and options open.

Until then, Hill has a lot of football still left in him, and it seems only a matter of time before he puts pen to paper on a deal that will confirm his return to the gridiron.

Where he will land, though, is anybody’s guess.
