Tyler Herro ghosts Heat exit interview after brutal play-in loss
Recently, the Miami Heat saw their frustrating 2025-26 NBA season come to an end with an overtime loss to the Charlotte Hornets in the nine vs ten game of the play-in tournament. The Heat looked to be on the cusp of victory when Tyler Herro buried three free throws in the closing seconds, but LaMelo Ball’s game-winning layup earned Charlotte the win and ended Miami’s season.
On Thursday, the Heat held exit interviews for their players, and two key members of the roster were not in attendance.
“Tyler Herro and Nikola Jovic have ‘respectfully declined’ the optional interview sessions, according to Heat PR. They did speak regularly during the season,” reported Five Reasons Sports on X, formerly Twitter.
Herro missed most of this season as he battled various injuries, which has unfortunately become a theme for the 2019 draft pick over his Heat career. Meanwhile, Jovic suffered through a rough third season of his career, often finding himself out of Erik Spoelstra’s rotation completely as the season wore on.
At this point, the Heat seem to have gone as far as they’re going to make it with this current core of players, led by Bam Adebayo, who had a quiet closing stretch to the season after shocking the NBA world by dropping 83 points on the Washington Wizards.
Herro figures to be a prime trade candidate once again this offseason, although it’s unclear what his value might be, considering his injury history and the fact that the league is increasingly moving away from ball-dominant guards who don’t contribute much on defense.
In any case, Heat fans will be hoping that Pat Riley works the phone more this offseason than he has over the last few summers.
