Twins make Taj Bradley injury roster move before Red Sox game

The American League Central throne may not be as attainable as previously anticipated, amid the Cleveland Guardians’ sweltering hot May, but the Minnesota Twins (24-27) are only two games out of a Wild Card slot following Friday’s 8-6 comeback victory over the Boston Red Sox. This does not have to be a transition year. October baseball is a worthwhile dream when surveying the AL landscape. Fans’ hopes will rise even further after the latest Taj Bradley update.

Minnesota is activating the right-handed pitcher off the 15-day injured list and intends to start him in Saturday’s game in Boston, per the team’s official X account. In correspondence with this reinstatement, the Twins are designating veteran reliever Luis Garcia for release or assignment. The 39-year-old posted a 10.38 ERA in 8 2/3 innings pitched for the club.

Bradley aims to give Minnesota’s rotation a valuable spark. He definitely succeeded on that front in his first eight starts of the campaign. The 2018 fifth-round draft pick has recorded a 2.87 ERA with 52 strikeouts, a 1.191 WHIP and .658 OPS against through 47 innings of work. His momentum was derailed due to right pectoralis muscle inflammation, which sent him to the IL on May 9.

The 25-year-old righty struggled in his rehab outing for the Triple-A St. Paul Saints on May 17, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks in just 1 2/3 innings, but the Twins obviously think he is ready to get back on an MLB mound. If he can build on a promising start to the 2026 season, then the team should be able to stay competitive for the foreseeable future.

Minnesota’s rotation is too top-heavy at the moment. Joe Ryan and Bailey Ober are delightfully dependable, but they need help. Taj Bradley will do his best to share in the burden, beginning with a battle in Fenway Park. First pitch for Twins-Red Sox is set for 4:10 p.m. ET.
