The PGA Tour heads to Quail Hollow in North Carolina this week for the Truist Championship, the tour’s sixth signature event of the calendar year.
A blockbuster line up sees the majority of the PGA Tour’s top players gunning for glory as they bid to hit form at the perfect time ahead of next week’s second major of the year, with the PGA Championship heading to Aronimink in Pennsylvania.
McIlroy will be competing on the PGA Tour for the first time since winning his sixth major title four weeks ago, becoming the first man since Tiger Woods in 2002 win the Masters in consecutive years, returning to a tournament and a course he loves dearly.
The Northern Irishman is one of only two players have won the Truist Championship on more than one occasions since it’s inaugural event in 2003, winning four of the last 15 editions of the tournament, most recently winning by a five stroke margin in 2024.
Cameron Young has been one of the stars of 2026 so far on the PGA Tour and heads to Quail Hollow as the second favourite for victory, just a week after a notable six-stroke victory in the inaugural Cadillac Championship last week to partner his win at the Players Championship last month and his three other top 10 finishes this year.
Two time major winner Xander Schauffele is also among the favourites for victory in North Carolina. After slow start to the year, the American has since achieved four top 10 finishes in his last six entries including a third place finish at the Players Championship and a T9 at the Masters.
The 32-year-old is yet to win an event on the PGA Tour this year but has shown consistency and improvements over the last couple of months.
Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick, two of Europe’s Ryder Cup winners from last year, are also expected to very much in the hunt come Sunday afternoon. The Swede has achieved a top five finish in four of his last five entries, while Fitzpatrick has arguably been the tour’s star player this year.
The Englishman has won more PGA Tour events than any other player this year, winning three of his last four entries, and finishing second in the one before that, most notably winning the RBC Heritage last month and, with victory in his last two tournaments heads to Quail Hollow as one of the men to beat.
With the PGA Championship just around the corner, all eyes will be on this week’s Truist Championship as the sport’s biggest names compete for of the tour’s signature events. Bet £10 on the action and get £40 in free bets with BOYLE Sports*.
