Tottenham Hotspur have slipped further towards an unprecedented Premier League relegation after West Ham smashed Wolves 4-0.

Doubles from Konstantinos Mavropanos and Valentin Castellanos gave the Hammers a deserved victory at the London Stadium.

The victory, their eighth in the league this season, has sent West Ham into 17th and two points above the bottom three.

It has also knocked London rivals Spurs into 18th ahead of their trip to Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.

Their worrying slide towards Championship football for next season has come less than a year after their Europa League triumph.

Spurs also sit in the Premier League relegation zone for the first time in 17 years.

A 1-0 defeat to Wigan in January 2009 put them 19th, although they recovered to finish eighth.

With seven games left to play this season, Spurs look set for a nervy run-in as they look to avoid an embarrassing fall from grace.

Tense times at Spurs

The 2025/26 season has become one to forget for Spurs.

Four months into the calendar year, they have not won a single one of their last 13 league matches.

Eight of these have ended in defeat, and the most recent of their two home victories came on December 6.

Roberto De Zerbi will become their third manager of the campaign when he takes to the touchline this weekend.

Thomas Frank was initially in the hotseat before being sacked and replaced by Igor Tudor, who left after seven games in charge.

Former Brighton and Marseille boss De Zerbi has joined Spurs with the sole aim of securing their Premier League status.

First up are Sunderland, with clashes against Brighton and Wolves to come throughout the rest of April.

Aston Villa, Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton then follow in what will be a testing end to the campaign.

May 24 is the Premier League final day, by which point Spurs may already know which league they will compete in next season.

But for now, it’s West Ham who are in control of the relegation race thanks to their resounding victory on Friday night.
