Tobias Harris weighs in on ‘Unc’ status with Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have assembled a solid core of young talent over the past couple of seasons, but a big reason for their recent success and potential success in the playoffs also stem from veteran players like Tobias Harris. Harris is the oldest player on the team, and ahead of the Pistons’ do-or-die Game 6 against the Orlando Magic, he quipped about his ‘Unc’ status on the team.

Tobias Harris gave a little grin when reminded of his veteran status on the Pistons by NBA on Prime sideline reporter Allie Clifton, but he also broke down what the team needs to do in order to keep themselves alive in the playoffs and force a Game 7 at home.

“Just be able to control the possession game for us, we talked about it all season long,” Harris said. “Win the rebounding battle, and at the same time, also limit our turnovers. Take care of the basketball, enjoy ourselves, have fun, smile, enjoy this moment. It’s exciting, rare territory to be in and we’re playing basketball. Let’s just do what we do, what we’ve been doing our entire lives.”

For the Pistons to force a Game 7 and potentially win this series against the Magic, they’re going to need strong production from Harris. The No. 19 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Harris has been a solid starting forward throughout his 15-year career.

Through the Pistons’ first five games of the playoffs, he’s averaged 19.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocked shots with splits of 44.6 percent shooting from the field, 16.7 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 80.8 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
