Ex-Mets GM warns David Stearns amid Freddy Peralta trade rumors

The New York Mets are currently preparing for the MLB trade deadline. Mets starting pitcher Freddy Peralta has been mentioned as a trade candidate as the team prepares to sell. While he has struggled this season, Peralta’s track record suggests he can bounce back. However, former MLB general manager and current analyst Jim Duquette shared an intriguing take on Thursday that will catch the attention of both Mets and Milwaukee Brewers fans, via Foul Territory.

“If I’m in David Stearns’ (Mets’ president of baseball operations) shoes, I gotta figure out who is the most interested. I don’t get the sense that Milwaukee is all that interested,” Duquette said. “I think they would be interested… I don’t want to send him back to Milwaukee… If the Brewers fix him when we (Mets) couldn’t, and we get 50 cents on the dollar, it’s not going to end well for David Stearns and it’s not going to end well for the guys in the front office.”

The Mets, of course, acquired Peralta from the Brewers this past offseason. If they trade Peralta back to the Mets while his trade value is now lower and Milwaukee helps the starter get back on track, it would certainly be a bad look for New York. Duquette believes the risk of trading Peralta back to the Mets is not worth it for Stearns.

The Brewers, despite having a payroll that is nowhere close to the Mets, are once again one of the best teams in the entire sport.
