Timberwolves’ Terrence Shannon Jr. shows zero fear of Victor Wembanyama in postgame talk
If there’s one thing everyone has come to know about this Minnesota Timberwolves squad, it’s that every member of that roster has that dawg in them. Jaden McDaniels proved it by talking trash to the Denver Nuggets and backing it up and Anthony Edwards returned from a hyperextended knee and a bone bruise just nine days after suffering the injury.
And now, Terrence Shannon Jr. is showing no fear of Victor Wembanyama after the Timberwolves took a 104-102 victory in Game 1 of their second-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.
“He gonna have to block it every time, I ain’t gonna stop going downhill and I told him that when he said a little something after he blocked my second one. He gonna have to block it every time, man. I know he ain’t gonna block it every single time. I’m gonna dunk on him,” Shannon said in his postgame presser, via Oh No He Didn’t on X (formerly Twitter).

Shannon, who drew another start for the Timberwolves amid the team’s backcourt injury troubles, had himself another good game. He followed up his 24-point performance in their closeout victory over the Nuggets with 16 points on 5-13 shooting from the field in their Game 1 victory over the Spurs.
It’s not quite clear until when Shannon will be starting for the Timberwolves. Edwards could very well return to the starting lineup for Game 2 after coming off the bench in Game 1 in his return from injury. But if he continues being this fearless, there’s no reason for head coach Chris Finch to stop rolling with him.
Shannon, of course, has to tread carefully. Wembanyama did record 12 blocks in Game 1, so the Timberwolves’ young guard may have to be more cautious with his shot selection moving forward. But it speaks volumes to how this Timberwolves team is able to rise to the occasion over and over again that they continue to run their mouth and still be able to play well enough to back up their words.
