Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards provides update after quick injury comeback

The Minnesota Timberwolves continued their fairy tale postseason with an entertaining 104-102 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals. And while Julius Randle starred with a 21-point double-double, Anthony Edwards’ quick return from injury also turned heads.

Edwards was fit enough to come off the bench after his status was recently upgraded to questionable merely nine days after sustaining a bone bruise and hyperextended knee. Post-game, Edwards explained exactly how he felt during the game, per a post on X by Chris Long.

“I don’t think I’m limited at all. Whatever coach needs from me. Game plan mistakes from me. Mental mistakes by me. I’m not that good at taking the ball out of bounds, which I know,” he said.

Edwards delivered immediate production in a controlled role, finishing with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting (61.5%), including 2-of-3 from three-point range while playing 25 minutes off the bench. He scored 11 fourth-quarter points, directly contributing to what may prove to be a crucial road win.

Minnesota’s Game 1 win came despite trailing after three quarters, with Edwards accounting for 11 of the team’s first 19 points in the fourth during a decisive stretch that flipped the game. The Timberwolves followed that surge with a 7-0 run to build a 95-86 lead, ultimately holding off a late Spurs push.

Edwards converted multiple difficult shots, including a pull-up three shortly after entering the game and a contested jumper over Victor Wembanyama in the fourth quarter. The Spurs were anchored by Wembanyama, who recorded 11 points, 15 rebounds, and an NBA playoff-record 12 blocks, becoming only the third player since 1973-74 to post a playoff triple-double including blocks.

Despite that presence, Minnesota converted difficult looks all night. Julius Randle led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds, with Jaden McDaniels and Terrence Shannon Jr. (16 points each) and Mike Conley (12 points) also scoring crucial points.
