Tigers’ Spencer Torkelson walks-off Brewers to cap wild rubber match

The Detroit Tigers earned a 5-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, as Spencer Torkelson came through with a clutch walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Thursday’s contest was exciting and competitive. Tarik Skubal exited in the seventh inning and ultimately allowed four runs. The Tigers endured ups and downs and trailed 4-3. Detroit later tied the game and then Torkelson sent the fans home happy with the walk-off home run.

Torkelson, 26, had struggled heading into the game, as he was hitting just .189/.333/.270 across 24 games played. His big swing on Thursday gave Detroit a crucial win, though. The Tigers are now 14-12 overall in 2026. The victory currently has them tied with the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central.

Perhaps Torkelson’s big moment will help him heat up this year. The Tigers would certainly benefit from having Torkelson play at a high level. He hit 31 home runs last year, so Torkelson has proved that he is more than capable of making an impact.

Detroit will look to continue to play well during their next series. The Tigers are set to travel to Cincinnati to play the Reds in a three-game weekend series. The first contest will be played on Friday night. Framber Valdez, who has pitched to a 2-1 record and 3.30 ERA so far this season, will get the start for the Tigers in the game against the Reds.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST in Cincinnati as Detroit looks to build momentum following Thursday’s thrilling victory.
