Tigers’ Justin Verlander getting scratched from upcoming start comes with brutal injury update

Detroit Tigers veteran starting pitcher Justin Verlander was initially expected to make his return from injury on Sunday against the Chicago White Sox, but that no longer will happen. According to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, Verlander has been scratched from the start due to a left hamstring strain. Tigers manager AJ Hinch said Verlander will miss “weeks” with the injury, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com.

“This is not a matter of days. It’s a matter of weeks,” Hinch said.

It is a brutal blow for the 43-year-old to say the least. Verlander has worked hard to return, but the Tigers will be without him for at least a few more weeks.

More to come on this story.
