This Game 7 stat will have Thunder feeling confident vs. Spurs

The Oklahoma City Thunder have found themselves in a Game 7 against the San Antonio Spurs to decide who will make a trip to the NBA Finals. Everyone knew coming into this series that it would be a heavyweight battle between these two teams, and now they have to lay out everything on the table in order to advance.

The Thunder are the most experienced team out of the two, and they have the advantage with it being in Oklahoma City. There’s also a stat that should make them feel confident going into Game 7, as defending champs are 33-14 all-time in those situations.

Getting back to the NBA Finals is the goal for the Thunder, and they know what they need to do to achieve it. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was honest about the stakes heading into Game 7, and it’s simply win or go home.

“I’m good. I’m ready to go. Biggest game of my career, and if I lose, my season’s over,” Gilgeous-Alexander said after Game 7.

This isn’t the first time the Thunder have been in a Game 7, and they were in the situation twice last season. They defeated the Denver Nuggets in seven games in the second round of the playoffs, and then defeated the Indiana Pacers in seven games to win the NBA championship.

It’s been a challenging series for the Thunder this time around because of the loss of key players like Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell. Both have dealt with injuries, and Williams was not effective enough in his return in Game 6, only playing 10 minutes and finishing with one point.

Nonetheless, the role players have stepped up huge for the Thunder to keep them competitive, and they’ll have to show up in Game 7 if they want a chance at winning. It’ll also be up to Gilgeous-Alexander to set the tone from the beginning.
