The first move new Vikings GM must make after coming over from Seahawks
The Minnesota Vikings have finally filled the general manager’s position. After firing Kwesi Adofo-Mensah shortly after the 2025 season came to a conclusion, the Vikings inserted Rob Brezezinski as the team’s interim GM. He fulfilled that role during free agency, the NFL Draft and the rookie free-agent signing period.
Brezezinski was a candidate for the permanent GM position, but the Vikings decided to hire Nolan Teasley. He was the assistant general manager of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. While Adofo-Mensah was considered as a leader who based many of his decisions on analytics, Teasley is considered a strong “football man” who is an excellent judge of talent and has great knowledge of the game.
Teasley will spend his first season with the team evaluating head coach Kevin O’Connell, his coaching staff and the talent on the roster. There will be multiple personnel moves that the Vikings have to make before they start the season in Week 1 against the archrival Green Bay Packers, but the key thing that Teasley must pull off is creating a positive atmosphere during the current season.
Teasley must create a positive atmosphere for O’Connell
This will not be easy, because he is the new boss and will ultimately make the team over in his own image. O’Connell knows the way cards are dealt in the NFL. The GM has usually has the right to hire his own head coach. That is almost certainly the case here, but Teasley wants to see O’Connell have a brilliant year in leading his team this season.
O’Connell is known as an excellent quarterback coach, and his job is to coax the best year out of newcomer Kyler Murray or holdover J.J. McCarthy. If O’Connell feels uncomfortable, he will have a hard time creating a positive locker room atmosphere this season.
Teasley must give O’Connell a legitimate opportunity to do his job by making him believe that the two men are in it together. If he can do that, the Vikings may be a playoff team in 2026. If he can’t, the current season could be a disaster for the Vikings.
