Texas Tech lands 4-star athlete after Brendan Sorsby debacle

Texas Tech has not been winning off the field as of late. The team will not have Brendan Sorsby at quarterback, and it does not seem Will Hammond will be ready to start the season.

Now, Texas Tech just scored a win on the college football recruiting trail, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.

Four-star athlete Hunter Haug has committed to Texas Tech, choosing the Red Raiders over TCU, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State.

Haug just recently took his official visit to Texas Tech, and is excited about the fit at the program, according to Sam Spiegelman of Rivals.

“They have been very consistent in communicating. They are coming off a strong year winning the Big 12 and look like they are building something special. They say I fit that,” Haug told Rivals. “I got to meet with Coach (Joey) McGuire and James Blanchard one-on-one, and see the team and envision myself out there. I really enjoyed my time there, and it feels like a good fit.”

The fourth-ranked athlete in the nation also loved being in Lubbock.

“I’m having a great time back out here in Lubbock,” Haug added. “Sitting in the position meetings was awesome. I’m loving this feel at Tech. I’m definitely feeling the excitement behind the team here. For me, it’s how established they are as a program and how they check all my boxes.”

While classified as an athlete, Haug will likely play in the secondary, and connected well with the secondary coaches.

“I love the coaches there. They’ve been very good at staying in touch with me. They are always checking in on FaceTime and I love Lubbock after being there a few times. I’ve been up there and it definitely seems like a true College town,” he said.

Haug is the fourth-ranked athlete and the 112th-ranked recruit nationally. Texas Tech is now ranked eighth in the nation in the Class of 2027 and have the top class in the Big 12.
