Texas Longhorns add Big Ten linebacker with 161 career tackles

The Texas Longhorns picked up another addition to their 2026 recruiting class on Thursday as former Michigan State Spartans linebacker Darius Snow committed following his visit to the Forty Acres. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound defender joins Texas for his seventh and final collegiate season after being granted an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA.

A veteran of 48 games and 10 starts, Snow brings 1,711 snaps of multi-role experience to Austin. He has been utilized in a wide range of roles, including 581 snaps in the slot, 324 in the box, 183 along the defensive line, as well as duties at safety and corner, in addition to more than 500 snaps on special teams. Over his career, he recorded 161 tackles (94 solo), 9.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, three pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. Advanced metrics credit him with 55 defensive stops, five pressures, and just one penalty.

His most productive season came in 2021, when he finished with 87 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, an interception, three pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. That year included a standout 16-tackle performance against Ohio State. However, injuries derailed his trajectory, as he missed most of the 2022 season and large portions of 2023 after a season-ending injury in the 2022 opener.

Snow returned to contribute in subsequent seasons, amassing 29 tackles in 2024 and 34 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack in 2025 while continuing to be a core contributor on special teams. Although he showed reduced athletic consistency following his injury, he remained a reliable tackler and rotational contributor.

Originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class, Snow was a highly regarded prospect, ranked as the No. 27 outside linebacker nationally by 247Sports Composite rankings. He chose Michigan State over more than 25 offers, including Texas, before eventually transferring back to his home state.

Snow becomes the Longhorns’ 21st transfer addition of the offseason and the fourth linebacker added via the portal, joining Rasheem Biles, Justin Cryer, and Markus Boswell. His addition addresses depth concerns at linebacker following offseason departures and brings experienced leadership to a unit that lacked numbers heading into the 2026-27 season.
