Terry Francona shares injury updates on 2 Reds pitchers
The Cincinnati Reds are set to play the Miami Marlins on Thursday. Before the game, Reds manager Terry Francona provided injury updates on pitchers Nick Lodolo and Caleb Ferguson, via Charlie Goldsmith.
“Nick Lodolo and Caleb Ferguson are going to throw bullpens today. Francona said how aggressive Lodolo gets will be determined by how he’s feeling,” Goldsmith wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Ferguson, a veteran reliever, suffered an oblique strain during spring training. He is continuing to work his way back from the injury concern. Ferguson signed a deal with the Reds this past offseason, but the 29-year-old has yet to make his debut with Cincinnati.
Lodolo is dealing with a blister on his left index finger. The Reds and Lodolo were initially hopeful he would not have to miss too much time with the issue, but the 28-year-old starting pitcher has not pitched in a regular season game in 2026 yet.
Ferguson is expected to play a crucial role in the Reds’ bullpen this year. Lodolo is going to help the starting rotation in a crucial manner. Cincinnati needs both pitchers without question.
It remains to be seen when they will make their season debuts, however. The team will continue to monitor and provide updates on Caleb Ferguson and Nick Lodolo’s injury statuses as they are made available.
Despite their injury absences, Cincinnati has still played well. The Reds will carry an 8-4 overall record into Thursday afternoon’s game against the Marlins. First pitch is scheduled for 12:10 PM EST in Miami.
