Taylor Swift, Randy Newman team for beautiful ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ duet at Toy Story 5 premiere

aAt the premiere of Pixar’s Toy Story 5, one of the soundtrack contributors, Taylor Swift, teamed up with the franchise’s longtime composer, Randy Newman, for a heartfelt rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”

Videos from the premiere, which was held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, have surfaced online. Variety shared a lengthy video of the performance, which shows Newman starting the song before Swift sings the second verse.

This wasn’t her only performance of the night. Her song from the soundtrack, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” was performed for the first time. She played it by herself on the piano.

When Swift announced “I Knew It, I Knew You,” she also released three physical editions of the single on CD. One of them, dubbed the “Piano Version,” might’ve sounded similar to her rendition at the premiere.

Taylor Swift is involved in Toy Story 5 after all

Fans were quick to speculate that Swift was involved in Toy Story 5 after a countdown appeared on her website on Apr. 30, 2026. The backdrop appeared to be Toy Story-themed, with blue skies and white clouds. The font was also similar to that of Toy Story’s logo.

However, the rumors were originally dismissed by the filmmakers. One of the co-directors, Andrew Stanton, was adamant that she wasn’t involved in the project. He even claimed the rumors “surprised” them.

“We’d be freakin’ honored. The sad truth is we watched the movie being mixed last week, and the song on the end of that was not [a] Taylor Swift song,” he claimed.

The announcement of Swift’s contribution to the soundtrack was made shortly after. Billboards with the abbreviation “TS” started popping up, and even Travis Kelce made references to Newman and the animated Pixar franchise. It all led to her first single release since “Elizabeth Taylor” in March 2026.
