Where Michigan fell in Coaches Poll after Hail Mary mulligan

Michigan needed a miracle to defeat Western Michigan. They got two chances at a Hail Mary after failing on their first attempt, but one second was put back on the clock. The second attempt was successful, and Michigan fans stormed the field.

While fans were excited about the win, coaches voting in the USA Today Coaches Poll were not inspired, dropping them in the poll, according to Aaron McMann of MLive.com.

“Michigan fell to 24th in this week’s US LBM coaches’ poll. Western Michigan is unranked, but received seven votes. Both Kyle Whittingham and Lance Taylor have votes; I’d love to know where they ranked both teams,” McMann posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The Wolverines dropped eight spots from 16 to 24, finishing just in front of Virginia and Florida, who tied for 24th. Meanwhile, Western Michigan was in the other received votes category, coming away with seven points. That placed them 40th overall in total votes.

LSU was one of the biggest risers in the Coaches Poll, jumping up to eighth from 13th. The other big mover was Virginia, which moved up seven spots to finish tied for 25th.

The Big Ten had mixed results in the Coaches Poll. Ohio State remained the top team in the nation, while Indiana moved up one spot to five. Oregon dropped from second to sixth, falling four spots after a difficult game against Boise State. USC stayed put at 14th while Penn State jumped up one spot to 16th. Washington also stayed put, sitting at 19th, while Iowa also jumped up a spot to 21st.

Meanwhile, Michigan dropped out of the ClutchPoints’ Top 25 power rankings, as Washington dropped four spots and Oregon dropped six.
