Wednesday football tips
Bet of the day
Aston Villa to beat Brighton @ 9/10
The fact that Aston Villa remained third in the Premier League standings despite earning only one point from their last two matches shows what a fine season they are having and Unai Emery’s team have a golden opportunity to get back on the winning trail when they host Brighton on Wednesday.
The Villans allowed Bournemouth to peg them back on Saturday after a 1-0 home defeat to 10-man Brentford, but they had failed to win only three of their previous 19 fixtures and can get the better of a Brighton side who have lost their way in recent weeks.
The Seagulls’ only top-flight success since November was against 19th-placed Burnley and Villa won the teams’ first meeting of the season 4-3 in December.
Sunderland v Liverpool Bet builder
- Sunderland or draw double chance
- Over 2.5 goals
- Hugo Ekitike 1+ shots on target
- Bet Builder pays 6/1
Sunderland boast the only unbeaten home record in the Premier League this season and that may still be the case after Liverpool visit the Stadium of Light on Wednesday.
The Black Cats have seven top-flight wins and five draws in front of the Wearside faithful, while the Reds have won only four of their 12 away games.
Sunderland held Arne Slot’s men to a draw in the reverse fixture and can claim at least a point against a Liverpool team missing the suspended Dominik Szoboszlai.
There have been at least three goals in Sunderland’s last four games as well as the last five outings for Liverpool, so over 2.5 goals appeals.
Round off this bet builder with Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike, who scored twice in the recent home win over Newcastle, to get at least one shot on target.
The Frenchman has tested the goalkeeper at least once in four of his last seven appearances.
Acca
- Crystal Palace to beat Burnley
- Stoke to beat Charlton
- Swindon to beat Newport
- Rangers to beat Motherwell
- Acca pays @ 21/2
Wednesday’s acca contains matches from four different divisions, starting with Crystal Palace to beat Burnley in the Premier League. The Eagles secured a welcome first win of 2026 at Brighton on Sunday but they may not have to wait so long for their second victory of the year.
Burnley are now 11 points from safety having not won in the league since October and while six of Palace’s league wins have come on the road, they can claim an overdue Selhurst Park success.
The only Championship game of the night could go to the away side as Stoke visit Charlton. The Potters have taken only three points from their last five league games but a victory at the Valley looks possible after a tough run of fixtures. The Addicks have won only three of their last 17 matches and could be vulnerable against a decent Stoke squad.
In League Two, third-placed Swindon can extend their winning run to four matches at home to a Newport side who have lost six of their last seven away league games.
In Scotland, in-form Rangers, who have scored 13 goals in their last two games, can boost their title hopes with a victory at fourth-placed Motherwell.
The Gers haven’t lost at Fir Park since 2015 – winning 12 games and drawing the other five – and the confident visitors can overcome the Steelmen.
