Wednesday football tips
Bet of the day
Aston Villa to beat Freiburg and Ollie Watkins to score anytime @ 21/10
Aston Villa are favourites to beat Freiburg and lift the Europa League trophy in Turkey on Wednesday night.
Unai Emery’s men are now three games unbeaten after losing three straight matches and have hit form at just the right time.
Freiburg have impressed to reach the showpiece final, beating Braga on aggregate in the semis, but the Bundesliga side have won just two of their last seven matches.
They did end the league campaign on a high with a 4-1 win over third-placed RB Leipzig, but it seems the German side just don’t have the same level of quality Aston Villa can call on, particularly from the bench.
On Christmas Day last year, Villa forward Ollie Watkins had only scored four times, but the striker is now back among the goals with four strikes in his last three games.
Backing the frontman to score anytime and a Villa win could prove a smart move for Wednesday’s final.
Special of the day
Boca Juniors to beat Cruzeiro, Hammarby to beat GAIS and Brann to beat Aalesund @ 21/4
Boca Juniors have lost their last two matches in the Copa Libertadores and will be determined to get the better of Cruzeiro when the two sides meet at 1.30am GMT.
The Argentine giants are third in Group D after four games, but are just a point from top spot and so a victory would put the team in control of their own destiny when attempting to reach the Last 16.
Winning seven of their last 10 matches, Boca have home advantage and are favourites to beat their Brazilian opponents.
In Sweden, Hammarby, who are second in the Allsvenskan, travel to midtable GAIS on the back of three straight victories. Kalle Karlsson’s men have scored eight goals across those games.
GAIS are unbeaten in five, but with just two wins so far this season, Hammarby will be confident of claiming another victory on the road.
Brann in Norway, meanwhile, travel to Aalesund having also won their last three games. Sitting sixth in the table, the Pride of Bergen are coming up against a team who have just one victory to their name this season.
Long shot of the day
IK Start to beat Bodo/Glimt @ 9/1
Bodo/Glimt earned plenty of plaudits in the Champions League this season, reaching the Last 16 of the competition after knocking out Serie A winners Inter.
Kjetil Knutsen’s men have had a mixed start to the new campaign in Norway, failing to win three of their first eight games and they trail leaders Viking by eight points.
On Wednesday, Bodo/Glimt travel to bottom club IK Start, who are winless and bottom of the table.
However, it’s important to note that Azar Karadas’ side are unbeaten at home, drawing three times and so could have what it takes to earn a narrow victory.
