Packers’ Keisean Nixon complains he’s being ‘punished’ – here’s what Matt LaFleur really thinks

The Green Bay Packers are in the midst of a competitive training camp before the 2026 season. Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon recently took a shot at the coaching staff based on his training camp usage. It does not seem like Nixon did himself any favors with his comments.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur responded to his player’s recent criticisms on Tuesday.

“You guys will take it different from me because the way I look at it is this, that I guess our whole team has been punished because everyone’s in competition,” LaFleur told reporters, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “I’m a big believer that competition will bring the best out of people. I want everybody to play with a chip on their shoulder if they feel like they have something to prove. You’re probably going to get more out of it.”

LaFleur does not seem to be happy with the veteran cornerback.

Nixon previously suggested that he’s being punished by Green Bay’s coaching staff after receiving backup reps at practice.

“I guess I’m being punished right now, I guess, I don’t know,” Nixon said, via Demovsky. “I don’t really worry about what I’m running in camp, the ones and twos, I just keep my process and compete.”

Nixon explained that he is uncertain why his starting spot is up for debate.

“I don’t view myself in no competition,” Nixon said. “I’ve come here to compete for myself. What they do and who they choose, that’s out of my control. I can only control what I can control,” Nixon added. “Nah, I came from the bottom. So I’m here. Year 8. Since I’ve been here, I ain’t been off the field. And anything they’ve asked me to do, I played at a high level. Whether it was, getting accolades or anything, however it came, I showed up. So, I always show up.”

Nixon is competing against Carrington Valentine, Benjamin St-Juste, and rookie Brandon Cisse for a starting spot at cornerback.

It will be fascinating to see if Nixon’s comments impact his position on the depth chart, one way or another.
