Premier League Outright Tips & Odds — talkSPORT BET £30 welcome offer

Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for Premier League title success last season and the Gunners drew first blood in the scrap for more silverware with an easy 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Mikel Arteta’s men have strengthened at the head of the market in their bid for successful title defence, with many feeling that the outclassing of the Citizens could set the tone for the new campaign.

City will demand improvement under Pep Guardiola’s successor, Enzo Maresca, while Liverpool and Chelsea are also under new management with Andoni Iraola taking charge at Anfield and Xabi Alonso arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Third last season, Manchester United will be looking to take another step forward under Michael Carrick and Tottenham have spent heavily under Roberto De Zerbi after flattering to deceive last term.

But there is more than just the title race to look forward to, with plenty of clubs targeting European qualification, while newly-promoted trio Coventry, Ipswich and Hull would settle for top-flight survival.

Premier League Outright Tips

  • Manchester City to win Premier League @ 3/1
  • Fulham to be relegated @ 5/1
  • Joao Pedro top goalscorer without Erling Haaland @ 6/1

Citizens overpriced in two-horse title race

City made far from the ideal start to life under Maresca, losing 3-0 to Arsenal in Sunday’s Community Shield, while the impending departure of midfield dictator Rodri to Barcelona is another big blow.

However, the Community Shield is not something that can be labelled as concrete form given the sheer number of changes both teams made and City’s World Cup stars have barely had a pre-season after their summer exploits.

The Citizens won’t perform that bad when the season starts proper and they have an abundance of quality throughout the team, spearheaded by the best striker in Europe in Erling Haaland. His presence, alongside wily wingers Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo and big-money arrival Elliot Anderson.

It remains to be seen whether Maresca has the credentials to be a success after Guardiola’s exit, but the squad is there at his disposal and they twice beat Arsenal last season, which included in the EFL Cup final, so there may be too much disparity in price.

Liverpool will have plenty to prove under a more intense approach from Iraola while Champions League football could stretch Manchester United and Chelsea and Tottenham have a lot of ground to make up.

Cottagers could be dragged into relegation scrap

It is never easy for those teams promoted from the Championship to mix it financially with established Premier League outfits and play-off winners Hull City could be seriously out of their depth.

However, Coventry and Ipswich have splashed the cash in a bid to secure top-flight survival and that could leave Fulham vulnerable.

The Cottagers were well settled under Marco Silva and since returning to the Premier League they have finished 10th, 13th and 11th (twice).

But Silva has left for Benfica and, while his replacement Alvaro Arbeloa was at Real Madrid, he took charge of only 28 games and remains a rookie manager.

The demands of a competitive Premier League is uncharted territory for him as a leader and they have lost some seasoned performers in Issa Diop, Sasa Lukic, Harry Wilson and Raul Jimenez.

Prolific Pedro to chase Haaland home

Haaland won the Golden Boot in three of his four seasons in the English top-flight and will be difficult to beat, but Chelsea hotshot Joao Pedro could give him most to think about.

Pedro was the Blues’ standout performer last season, scoring 15 goals and grabbing eight assists in 35 Premier League appearances, while being left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad could allow him to hit the ground running.

The Blues have spent plenty over the summer, with the arrival of Morgan Rogers to bolster creativity and Pedro looks likely to continue leading the line.

The 24-year-old should continue to go from strength to strength and he scored seven goals in just five pre-season appearances.
