Substitute Deniz Undav goes off for Germany vs. Ivory Coast in World Cup
Germany pulled off a 2-1 comeback win over the Ivory Coast in their second match of the FIFA World Cup, winning qualification for the knockouts at Toronto Stadium. The goals both came from Deniz Undav, who was brought on by Julian Nagelsmann in the 59th minute.
Undav responded by scoring twice, first in the 68th minute and then at the 90+4 minute mark to make it three goals in two games for the VfB Stuttgart striker, per a post on X by Fox Sports. The win came after a testing first half that saw Franck Kessie initially fire Ivory Coast ahead.

The Ivorians, led by Yan Diomande and Amad Diallo, tested the Germans in the first half and had multiple chances to score another. However, Germany, who did everything right but struggled in the final third, eventually found the answers.
Antonio Rudiger was brought on at halftime in place of Nico Schlotterback. However, the goal came only after further changes, with Jamie Leweling and Nadiem Amiri also being brought on in the 59th minute alongside the goalscorer.
The second half saw the Germans play to their strengths. They kept the Ivorian defence under tremendous pressure with the likes of Kai Havertz and Florian Wirtz finding consistent space to create chances.
Ivory Coast continued to push for another goal after Germany had initially equalized, which gave the Germans enough cracks to exploit. The second goal came after Undav initially had a ball fired to his feet from midfield.
The 29-year-old responded by taking it on the turn and slotting the ball neatly out of reach of the Ivorian keeper. The win means that Germany now have six points with a goal difference of +6. They ensure a knockout berth while almost certainly winning the top spot in the group as well.
Ivory Coast, on the other hand, will now need a win in their last game to ensure qualification, depending on what Ecuador do in their remaining two games of the group stage.
